Pulse Diagnosis

Nadi Diagnosis

The Pulse That Speaks Before a Single Word Is Said.

Nadi Pariksha, or pulse diagnosis, is one of Ayurveda’s oldest and most precise diagnostic sciences revered as “Jiva Sakshi,” the living evidence of one’s health. Ancient Ayurvedic anatomists identified an intricate network of channels throughout the body, among them fourteen primary Nadis including Sushumna, Ida and Pingala that carry sensory and motor impulses between the body’s periphery and its centre. By carefully reading the pulse, our physicians can detect the underlying imbalance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha long before it surfaces as visible illness. This is far more than counting a heartbeat it demands years of trained expertise and deep concentration. Vd. Dattatray Pandya has practiced this art for over 9 years, diagnosing more than 100 patients every single day, while Vd. Shefali Pandya applies the same precision to women’s health and Garbh Sanskar care.

The Fourteen Nadis

The Fourteen Nadis

Ancient Pathways That Quietly Carry the Body’s Life Force.

Sushumna: Traditionally associated with the backbone, channeling vital energy steadily to the crown.

Pingala: Traditionally associated with the right side, channeling energy towards the right nostril.

Ida: Traditionally associated with the left pathway, channeling energy toward the left nostril.

Gandhari: Traditionally associated with the left eye, supporting clearer vision and sharper insight.

Hastijihva: Traditionally associated with the right eye, supporting clearer vision and steady insight.

Pusha: Traditionally closely associated with the right ear, supporting hearing and inner balance.

Yashasvini: Traditionally closely associated with the left ear, supporting hearing and steady balance.

Alambusha: Traditionally associated with the mouth, descending downward all the distance to backbone.

Kuhu: Classically tied with the reproductive organs, guiding vigour and the reproductive health.

Shankhini: Classically located closely near Kuhu, governing elimination and the body's ground energy.

Saraswati: Classically linked with the tongue, guiding speech, clarity, and clear expression overall.

Payaswini: Traditionally associated with the right ear, guiding balance across hearing and digestion.

Vishwodara: Traditionally associated with the navel, governing digestion and the body's core strength.

Varuni: Classically associated with the lower body, governing elimination and total fluid balance.

Nadi Pariksha is far more than feeling the pulse at the wrist. It is Nadi Vijnana the science of the nerves encompassing the study of the life processes that sustain human existence. The Nadi is revered as Jiva Sakshi, the living evidence of life itself, shaped continuously by the three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

The Nadi referred to here is the radial artery, but its Gati its motion reveals far more than rate, rhythm or blood flow. Read correctly, it discloses the precise imbalance among the three doshas, and the extent of that imbalance. At the most critical moments, when a physician’s prognosis matters most, this reading becomes an essential guide to understanding a patient’s true condition.

Mastering this science demands more than physical examination alone. It requires deep concentration, a stillness of mind and a closeness between mind and self that only sustained yogic discipline can cultivate. This is a dimension of diagnosis that modern medicine has yet to fully explore an ancient, exacting art practiced with both skill and presence.
